TE AUTE BEATEN
MOASCAR CUP MATCH PALMERSTON NORTH’S WIN Press Association PAI.MERRTQN N., Wednesday. After holding the Moascar Cup since 192 4, Te Aute College today lost possession of the trophy to the Palmerston North Bovs’ High School. The game was played at Palmerston North and a crowd of over 8.000 people watched the contest. Palmerston North won by 8 points to 3, after a good game, played on a heavy ground and with a greasy ball. Te Aute had the great advantage in weight of an average of 12lb a man. They played the first spell with a wind of almost gale force behind them, but could not raise a margin of more than 3 points to 0 at half-time. High School fought a dogged, defensive game, and by holding the score down gave themselves an opportunity in the second spell, when they attacked strongly. Besides crossing the ?ine twice they had the' better of matters all round. Te Aute scored first ualf-way through the opening spell, when the back line handled the ball attractively for Tuhiwai, to complete the movement with a strong run in which he shook off two defenders. The kick failed. High School went to the attack immediately after half-time, and soon gave an indication that they intended to make the most of the wind. The first try came from an attractive rearguard movement, very similar to that which gave Te Aute its points. Penman crossed the line, but Millar missed an easy kick. With the points even Te Aute made a strong bid to increase the score, but the school defence was too sound. The challengers played strenuously, and their efforts culminated when Bradley cut in brilliantly to complete a rearguard movement and scored beside the posts. Henderson converted. No further score was made.
