UNION DISSATISFIED
CARPENTERS' POSITION DISPUTE WITH L.R.C. It was reported yesterday that rumours were abroad of a dispute in the trade union ranks of Auckland, leading to the possible secession of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners from the Labour Party. The position, briefly, is that the carpenters’ union, comprising something like 1,400 members, has actually notified the cancellation of its affiliation to the Labour Partj% but the Labour Representative Committee, which is to consider the position tomorrow evening, hopes that an adjustment will be made whereby the disatisfaction will be rectified. It is believed that certain rules embraced by the L.R.C. are the cause of the dispute, other unions having questioned them previously. It will be recalled by these acquainted with the Labour movement that 12 months ago, when the question of reaffirming affiliation with the L.R.C. was discussed, the Carpenters’ Union was divided upon its future policy on account of dissatisfaction with the L.R.C.
Mr. T. Bloodworth, the secretary, will not comment upon the position, though he denies that the trouble is a personal political one.
