GASES FROM THE AIR
FACTORIES TO BE OPENED IN NEW ZEALAND FRENCHMAN’S INVENTION Factories for the production of gases from the air are to be opened in New Zealand. Mr. George H. V. Burroughs, who arrived by the Aorangi yesterday afternoon, has come to New Zealand with the object of establishing plants in the larger cities of the Dominion. The product in which Mr. Burroughs is interested is known to the commercial world as the Claude Neon Lighting Industry. The secret was first discovered by M. Georges Claude, of Paris, one of the leading scientists of the world. As a result of M. Claude's invention the rare gases of the air are turned into liquid and put to commercial use. The gas is easily produced, according to Mr. Burroughs. “It is the most romantic invention in the history of commerce," said Mr. Burroughs yesterday, who stated that five different colours are available for lighting purposes at present, though there are 70 colours in use for experiments in the laboratories. Although Mr. Burroughs did not disclose the secret of obtaining the gases from the air. he said that after it had been manufactured it was confined in flasks to be sold. The gas is excellent for use in advertising at night, because of the different colours which can be used. It is operated by some of M. Claude's patents.
