NOT A BED OF ROSES
COUNTY RANGER’S WORK ENFORCING REGULATIONS (From Our Own Correspondent) TE KUITI, Saturday. That a county ranger’s work is not exactly a bed of roses was disclosed at the last meeting of the Waitomo County Council held at Te Kuiti on Friday. In his report to the council the ranger referred to abusive behaviour on the part of a certain offender against the overloading regulations. Cr. Pratt said some action should be taken in the matter. He had personally witnessed a sample of this conduct when tlie argument became so heated that blows between the ranger and a certain party had been exchanged The council should take steps to protect the ranger in the execution of his duties and prosecute offenders. The question of the ranger’s mode of transport came up for discussion, councillors contending that a light car in preference to the horse now being used should be provided, to enable quicker transport. It was decided that the finance committee submit a report at the next meeting. After hearing the ranger’s statement m connection with the threatening behaviour, it was decided that iegal proceedings be taken against the offender on a charge of overloading.
