NATIVE LEASE INQUIRY

EVIDENCE COMPLETED (From Our Own Correspondent J TE KUITI, Saturday. The Native Lease Commission, comprising: Judge McCormick (chairman), and Messrs. Metcalf and Richards, having completed its work in the King Country district on Friday, will draw up a report to be submitted to the Governor-General. Evidence was taken at Te Kuiti, Otorehanga and Taumarunui, where a large number of leases were investigated. Marked progress in the district was noted by Judge McCormick during his comprehensive tour of the Northern King Country. He said idle lands were now in occupation, and nearly all the farms which were abandoned a few years ago had again been taken up, the majority of the new occupiers being quite satisfied with their prospects. There was certainly a decided move for the better in farming in this district—one that augurs well for the future, concluded the judge.
