BRIGHT HOPE

Small Invalid Owns New Interest MAN GIVES RADIO SET Radio has made it possible—little Laurel Andrews has a new field of interest. ■DOR 18 months she has been at; the front window of her Mount 33den home, crippled and unable to share the play of other children. Cruel misfortune, this, for Laurel had a leg injured in a simple fall. Only 10 years of age, yet Laurel has not been depressed by the injury which has stifled many of her hopes. People soon came to know the dark-

haired, bravely-smiling little girl, at the window. Passing business people became her friends rapidly. All know the unflagging hope of 1 Laurel’s spirit. She feels the real friendship of these passers-by—hun-dreds of them. One man saw the little girl as she looked brightly down the street into her world. And it was this man who. making inquiries from a friend of ( Laurel’s family, sent the small invalid 1 a wireless set. Wider interests for Laurel. She is as well acquainted with the programmes from IYA as the keenest radio enthusiast in Auckland. And. having real interest, appreciative of the delights at hand, she is one lis-tener-in who does not cavil at lYA’s eccentricities. There is only one flaw in Laurel’s happiness—she wants to know the man who gave the wireless set. Perhaps he is one of the stream of people which passes her home daily. Laurel has resolved to send a photograph of herself, wearing headphones, to the giver. It will be presented through the friend of her family. So Laurel is patiently waiting for her recovery in her Stewart Street home.
