LOSS OF BUSINESS
BOARD ASKED TO EXPLAIN POWER FAILURE QUEEN STREET COMPLAINTS Twenty-four business houses are concerned about the recent stoppage of light and power which occurred on the east side of Queen Street last Friday. They have outlined their grievances in a joint letter to the Auckland Power Board. The letter states;—"We wish to impress upon you the seriousness o[ the most unfortunate stoppage, in con. sequence of which all business had in stop for over an hour. The financial loss sustained by the businesses affected is difficult to estimate, bir could be easily demonstrated to bo very considerable. “We think that it is due to us, as customers of your board, that should be given some explanation ot the reasons of the failure, and also that we should be given an assurance that every effort will be made to avoid a recurrence, or, in the event ot future failure, to give quicker relief. We should also appreciate your advice as to the desirability of the large users installing their own plants for use during a break-down, a reversion to candles, as was necessary last Friday, being pitifully inadequate.”
