NO CATTLE EXHIBITS
A. AND P. COMMITTEEMEN RESENTFUL MR. KALAUGHER RESIGNS “The elimination of the livestock section has definitely decided me to resign from the Winter Exhibition Committee,” said Mr. J. P. Kalaugher, in tendering his resignation from the Winter Exhibition Committee at the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association's meeting this afternoon. Mr. J. T. F. Mitchell presided. Despite the request of the meeting, Mr. Kalaugher held to his decision. Mr. W. F. O’Donnell, secretary of the association, said he would like to make an explanation. "The introduction of the dairy cattle section last year was my idea, and I think it a very important idea,” he said. “Why we deleted this section this year is not because we do not want it, hut because we have not got the space to display them. The dictates of the Harbour Board render it impossible. The New Zealand Friesian Association and Mr. Kalaugher should realise that the section is not dropped altogether. It is merely a matter of expediency. I hope Mr. Kalaugher will reconsider his decision.” “No, I have fought this out before,” said Mr. Kalaugher in reply. "Perhaps I am foolish, but it is a matter of principle. Mr. O’Donnell’s contention that there is no room is worthless. There is plenty of room there.” Mr. O’Donnell: The Harbour Board will not allow us in the sheds. In any case, the decision to delete the section this year was decided by both the A. and P. and the Manufacturers’ Association sections of the committee. It is only fair to say that.” “It must have been a funny sort of meeting them,” said another member. “There could not have been any formers there. We should have the cattle, and we will provide sufficient for the show if you give us the space.” After spirited arguments for and against, the discusison was closed, and Mr. Kalaugher’s resignation was accepted with regret. Mr. E. P. McLenlnan was elected to flil the vacancy. A letter was received from the secretary of the Royal Show Association stating that two proposals had been submitted for the holding of the Royal Show. One was at Lyall Bay, and the other on the Wellington A. and P. Association’s grounds. Mr. Mitchell said a protest had already been lodged against the holding of the Royal Show in Wellington. It was decided that the letter be received, and the writer thanked for the information.
The resignations of Mr. W. J. W. Pascoe from the Winter Exhibition Committee was received. He was also granted three months’ leave of absence from the Auckland A. and P. Association.
