LABOURER’S FRAUDS
LONG LIST FOR FALSE PRETENCES ANOTHER THREE MONTHS “He is at present doing three months, and has a long list for false pretences,” said Chief-Detec-tive Hammond of Thomas Joseph Spalding, at the Police Court this morning. gPALDING, a labourer, aged 47, pleaded guilty on two charges of obtaining goods by falsely representing that he was authorised to order them by his employer. The first charge was in respect of groceries valued at Ss lid obtained from Edmund Wilson at Manaia on February 14, and the second, goods valued at £1 4s 4d. and obtained from William Patrick O’Meagher at Eltham on January 9. According to the chief-detective, Spalding had spent January and February in Taranaki, where he had told the old story of being employed by a man for whom he was authorised to get goods. Spalding was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, to be commenced at the expiration of his present term.
