SOLDIERS’ MEMORIALS

NOW ISSUED FOR DEATHS SINCE WAR PLAQUES AND SCROLLS His Majesty’s Government in Great Britain has advised the New Zealand Defence Department that the memorial plaque and scroll which were designed to commemorate th’ose who were killed in the Great War will now be issued to the next-of-kin of all those members of the N.Z.E.F. who have died as a result of war services since the war and before September 1, 1928. THE memorial consists of a bronze plaque of emblematic design, a parchment scroll and a letter from his Majesty the King. The scrolls have already been received by the Defence Department and are ready to be issued to the next-of-kin of dead soldiers. The plaques are not yet in New Zealand, but are expected in a few months’ time. The memorials will be issued to the soldier’s blood next-of-kin at the time of distribution. There is no question of legal succession and they will not be issued to a legatee under a. will in preference to the surviving next-of-kin. % Applications for the memorials should be addressed to N.Z.E.F., Base Records Office, Wellington, and every applicant should quote the full name of the soldier concerned, his regimental number, the applicant’s relation to him and the address to which the memorials are to be sent. It should be carefully noted that the memorials will not be issued unless the death was the result of war services and unless it occurred before Septem>er 1, 1928.
