COMMUNITY SINGING STARTS GOOD ATTENDANCE TODAY ■ TAKE the sing germ back to toil.? A exhorted the Rev. Jasper Calder a£ the first session of Community Sing-# ing held at the Town Hall in the lunch hour today. The response to the “Cheer Gernt Song” was a little thin at the start. “Let me hear from you,” requested Mr. Calder, warming up to his work in the manner of a city auctioneer. The volume increased in a gradual crescendo as the more timid members of the audience joined in until at last reached satisfying proportions, although even then, soprano voices were rather predominant. “The Old Folks at Home” was a popular number and this the singers tackled with zest. The large hall was almost filled when the singing commenced, and the attendance was added to throughut the hour. Major-General Sir George Richardson was the chairman and he received able support from the Rev. Jasper Calder. who is an ideal song leader, by Miss Ida Holmes and Mr. Len Barnes added variety to the proceedings. Mrs. R. E. Osbourne was the accojnp'a nist. A collection up in aid nf charitable institutions obtained a good response.
