“YOUNG WOODLEY”
HIS MAJESTY’S NEXT MONDAY j “Young: Woodley,” a comedy-drama of College life, the next J. C. WilliamI son attraction, is to open on Tuesday next at His Majesty’s Theatre for a short season only. While some of the critics have crossed swords with the author of this unusual play, it is now generally admitted that the drama is one which i makes a general appeal to the public | by reason of its realism. The comedy-drama, if such it can i tru£* be termed, is of the love of a 1 college youth for a handsome young j married woman, the wife of a liousei master, the exposure and his escape | from disgrace by what he terms S the treachery of the woman, and his subsequent expulsion for further misj deeds. Y’oung Woodley's departure j from college is with the assurance from j the young wife that she has, and ali ways will have, a pure love for the ! impulsive youth, who enters his ! father’s business with a better (and ! cleaner) idea of the life before him. • The critic of the “Herald,” Sydney, • says: j “The 17-year-old Lewis „ Shaw’s 1 poignant portrayal of Young Woodley. who falls in love with liis housemaster’s wife, was brilliant. Always he was shy, fumbling for knowledge, resenting furtive obscenities from less idealistic school friends. His work will remain long in the memory. “Xatalie Moya, as the wife, gives a vivid and clean-cut portrayal. “As her husband, Frank Royde was responsible for much of the success of •‘Young Woodley,” for which also he is the producer.” , The box plans open on Friday at Lewis Eady, Ltd., for the season of six nights.
