TOURNAMENTS HELD BY SIX CLUBS KING’S BIRTHDAY PLAY Six clubs staged bowling tournaments yesterday. The greens were in excellent order and players turned out in large numbers to take advantage of the holidays. CARLTON FINALISTS The conclusion of the section play in which eight teams took part at the Carlton Club yesterday saw Josey, Wilcox and Gavey equal at the top, each with four wins and one loss. These players will , contest the finals on Saturday. MT. ALBERT CONTESTS Two sections, each with eight rinks, contested the section play at the Mt. Albert Club, where the King’s Birthday tournament was held. Five rounds were played in each section. In section A, Wakerley (Rocky Nook) and E. Thomas and Stewart (Mount Albert) tied with four wins and one loss -each. Wakerley beat Thomas in the play-off, and will meet Stewart in the section final on Saturday. Section B was won outright by Baildon (Mount Albert), with four wins and one loss, and he will meet the winner of section A in the tournament final on Saturday afternoon. DEVONPORT’S SEASON CLOSES A progressive pairs tournament brought the Devonport Bowling Club’s season to an end yesterday. Scott won the leads’ section and Wrigley and Layzeli tied for the skips’ section. Following are the results of club events:— Club Championship.—Ellisdon; runnerup, Bailey.
