NIGHT IN BUSH
HUSBAND AND WIFE’S ORDEAL FOUND BY SEARCH PARTY (From Our Own Correspondent) KAITAIA, Today. To spend all night in the bush without food, water or covering, was the unenviable experience of Mr. F. B. R. McArthur, dentist, Kohukohu, and his wife. A CCOMPANIED by their three young daughters, and Miss M. Evans, a sister of Mrs. McArthur, they journeyed by car to Mangamuka on Sunday, and on reaching the Mangamuka Saddle, Mr. McArthur and his wife left Miss Evans and the children in the car and entered the bush at 1.30 p.m. for the purpose of pighunting. From that time until 7.30 ou Monday morning they completely disappeared. As the afternoon turned to evening, Miss Evans became anxious and hailed a party of passing motorists. The situation was explained and the Kaltaia police were informed. A search party was organised and searchers traversed the bush all night, giving vent to continuous “coo-ees,” but it was not till 7.30 on Monday morning that the missing couple was discovered six miles in the bush from the place where they had entered it. •They were brought back to the road and taken to Victoria Valley, terribly cold and tired.
