“FOOLISH ESCAPADE”
PROBATION FOR CAR THIEF Press Association INVERCARGILL, Thursday. A youth of IS years, whose name was suppressed, appeared for sentence in the Police Court today, having previously pleaded guilty to several charges of converting motor-cars to his own Lise. “The lad is young.” .said the magistrate. “and I think, not very intelligent. His previous character and habits, as indicated by testimonials, lead me to think that what he lias done is rather in the nature of a foolish escapade than confirmed dishonesty. I shall accede to the appeal for probation. He will be admitted to probation for the full term of three years, and he will have to pay £22 Ss 6d for damages to cars and to a bridge; also expenses, at the rate of 10s a week.
