HAWKE’S BAY TROTS
STARTING TIMES PETERWAH DISLIKES MOTORS (Special to THE SUN) HASTINGS, Today. The last of the visiting horses for the Hawke’s Bay fixture arrived last evening, making a total of 100 from the various . centres. R. Fisken’s team came from Gisborne by motor-lorry. The crack trotter Peterwah showed a strong disinclination to travel in this fashion, behaving so badly that after about 14 miles had been traversed it was found advisable to return and leave the American horse at home. Wah, Peter Lloyd and Huiraima comprise the Gisborne sportsman’s string. W. Hughes has brought Derby Lynn through for the Cup the second day, but the mare will be giving away a good start. Arachne, who arrived last night, is also engaged in the Cup. W. Lowe has a bracket, in both trots—Bon Boy and Deceitful—and he also brought Ethiopian up for W. Tomkinson. The Wildwood gelding, who is an eleventh hour' favourite for the big race tomorrow, will be driven by Dunleavy. Native Hero has not put in an appearance, and the latest advice is that the Wairarapa pacer will not be a competitor at the fixture. Starting .times the first day are:— 11.15, Novice Handicap; 12.5, Havelock Handicap; 12.55, Napier Handicap; 1.45, East Coast Handicap; 2.35, Hastings Handicap; 3.25, Stewards’ Handicap; 4.15, June Handicap.
