WORKS IN MOUNT EDEN DEPUTATION FROM W.E A. A report of a tour of inspection made by the members of the new Mount Eden Borough Council was received at last evening's meeting of the council. The couneil visited the parks aud inspected many of the loading and improvement schemes in the borough and expressed'its approval of the workbeing carried out. A visit was also made to the mountain. A deputation was received from the ’Workers’ Educational Association. The speaker, Mr. W. H. Cocker, president. of the association, thanked the council for the support it had given the W.E.A. in the past. He pointed out that last year Parliament had authorised that grants from local bodies for educational purposes should be made from authorised expenditure, and not from unauthorised expenses as in the past. He outlined the work of the association and hoped that in the future the council might see its way to increase considerably its usual grant of £5. The Mayor, Mr. E. H. Potter, promised that the matter should be considered by the Finance Committee. A letter was received from the Returned Soldiers’ Association offering £45 for the employment of ex-soldiers, on condition that the council subsidise this sum at the rate of £ for £ and use it, as far as possible, among returned soldiers living in the borough. It w-as decided to accept the offer.

It was reported that during the month of April permits for building work vdealued at £7,155 had been issued.
