EVOLUTIONISTS’ CLAIMS

VIEWS OF SPIRITUALISTS DEFECTIVE STATE TEACHING In answer to the question: “Does Evolution imperil Christian civilisation?” the Rev. J. G. Hughes, preaching yesterday at the Progressive Spiritualists’ Church, stated that what is true in modern civilisation was not jeopardised by what was true in Evolution. But, what was not true in religious teaching was in jeopardy. This was a good thing.

“Where Evolutionists have built great theories on isufficient evidence, those theories must be modified in conformity with out limited knowledge.

‘‘Mr. Hughes sail the course of lectures at the Auckland University was held to be inadequate because the religious aspect of Evolution, which was most important, was ignored, notwithstanding that ‘the legitimate inferences’ from evolution were essentially religious. To be told that the evidence of design was ‘an individual matter’ is quite unsatisfactory, for the same might be said of the principle of Evolution itself and all the theories built up to explain the mode of it. Unless professors deal with the cause or causes of Evolution, the public must look to the churches for enlightenment on these aspeette. As long as our State institutions teach Evolution in this defective manner, the fears of alarmists are well founded,” the speaker remarked.
