PAKURANGA HUNT
MEET AT BEACHLEA DOWNS STRONG HARE ELUDES HOUNDS There was a large muster of huntsmen at the meet of the Pakuranga Hunt, held on the property of Mr. Owen Self, Beachlea Downs, Papatoetoe, on Tuesday. Included in the followers was a party from Government House, also Miss Ward-Smith, a member of the Christchurch Hunt. Mr. and Miss Selby were interested spectators. In the first draw, some trouble was experienced in locating a quarry. The pack worked over Mr. Self’s property without success. A visit was then paid to Mr. W. W. Massey's farm, where a strong hare was located in a field of kale. It took the field for a good spin, crossing the road into Mr. Self’s at the back of the homestead, where it sped across to the mountain, and passed through Mr. Slater’s, and on to the road, where it was lost. It was not long before • another hare was raised in Mr. Massey’s property, where it crossed the road into Mr. Self’s, and circled through Mr. Slater’s, and then back on to Mr. Massey’s. After a good sharp run, it was killed on the edge of the lake in Mr. Self’s farm. Another hare was put up, which led the field over practically the same circuit, but it . eluded the pack la a market garden.
