DEVONPORT’S RELIEF WORKS

Mr. E. Aldridge, Mayor of Devonport, reported to his council last evening that while in Wellington last week he had interviewed the Hon. W. A. Veiteh, Minister of Labour, in the absence of the Prime Minister, on the proposal that Devonport Avould set aside £I,OOO for unemployment relief if the Government would subsidise it. He had pointed out that, in the last five years, Devonport had borrowed nearly £50,000 for Unemployment relief. Mr. Veiteh had undertaken to lay the proposal before Sir Joseph Ward.
