MANUKAU COUNTY’S YEAR BIG PROGRAMME AHEAD Steady progress and general improvements to the roads and bridge? under the council’s jurisdiction was recorded in the annual report of the chairman. Mr. F. M. Waters, submitted at the annual meeting of the Manukau County Council yesterday. Seven worn-out Wooden bi'idges had been replaced during the year by concrete bridges and the work, in accordance with the council’s policy, would need to bt* carried on still further. In the coming year’s programme a important item was the reconstruction and concrete-paving of the PanmureHowick main highway, which would be subsidised by the Main Highways Board to the extent of £15.000 by a £3 for £1 subsidy. The ratepayers of the riding concerned would be called upon to sanction the raising of a special loan for their share of the cost. The Mangore water supply scheme and the supplementary reading scheme for that riding were other important items. The number of new residences and buildings erected during the year showed the growth of the county. A total of 261 permits was issued to the value of £150,000. Subdivisions numbering 21 were approved, with a total of 349 building sections. Mr. F. M. Waters was unanimously re-elected chairman and Mr. J. Luke was elected deputy-chairman. Members of the council paid a tribute to the work of Air. Waters as chairman ir* the past and congratulated him on his re-election. MrWaters thanked the members for their continued support and the spirit of team-work which had always existed.
