DEVONPORT COUNCIL

SPENDING OF POPPY DAY FUND The R.S.A. has voted £GO. of the Poppy Day collection of £77 10s at Devonport, to the Devonport Borough which will subsidise it £ for £ and employ returned soldiers with th< money. An effort is to be made to secure a subsidy from the Government on the money. This was announced at a meeting of the council last evening, the Mayor. Mr. E. Aldridge, presiding. An application from the Takapuna Borough Council for the use of a digused shed, on the Devonport pumping station’s site at the Lake for the providing of Takapuna Municipal Band with a practice room was declined. A deputation of boat-owners who moor boats behind the Iris asked for the provision of a skidway and dinghv shelters, now that the council hqd completed the sea wall along the Queen’s Parade. The question was deferred until tin site was inspected by the council Some provision for dinghies in Torpedo Bay will be considered also. The Mayor and those of the councillors who wish will attend service at the Anglican. Presbyterian and Methodist Churches. The North Shore Cricket Club is to be invited to place in writing its complaints about the state of the wickets on the Domain. Several councillors complained about the manner in which buses park at the wharf head. The traffic inspector was instructed to suggest improvements.
