TRANSPORT BOARD’S CHAIRMAN
Sir, — I would like to make a few comments on Mr. All urn’s position on the Transport Board, and I would like to state two reasons why his resignation should be accepted. (1) He has not the confidence of the electors as is proved by his defeat at the polls. (2) That he does not possess the qualities necessary in a chairman. One of your correspondents gives the impression that Mr. Allum is indispensable. That, I think, is wrong. I would like to say that I consider Mr. T. Bloodworth could take the posit.on and fill it admirably. I, for one, object to Mr. Allum remaining on the Transport Board, as he is not a member of the City Council, and if the City Council is bankrupt of men of ability to fill the position then the right thing to do is for it to resign and contest another election. But I do not agree that we are bankrupt. If Mr. Allum were to leave Auckland his place would be filled; therefore, the argument that no/ other man can fill the position as Mr. Allum can does not hold water F. lIARROWELL.
