White Blooms Enhance St. Matthew’s Church for Evening Wedding
Petal-Pointed Bridal Gown WILSON—NEWBEGIN ST. MATTHEW’S CHURCH was beautifully decorated with white flowers last evening for the wedding of Miss Phyllis Gertrude Newbegin, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Newbegin, of Vauxhall Road, Devonport, to Mr. Lewis Alexander Wilson, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Wilson, of St. Leonard’s Road, Devonport. Canon C. H. Grant Cowan performed the wedding ceremony.
pNTERING THE church on the arm M-j 0 £ j ier father, the bride looked very charming in a gown of silver and ivory relieved with touches of pink. The slender corsage was of silver lame and the bouffant skirt was of petal printed ivory tulle. A swathe of silver lame lined with pink taffeta finished at on© side of the waist in a large butterfly bow. The embroidered tulle veil was arranged round the hair with a coronet of orange blossom, and she carried a bouquet of white flowers. PEACH PINK AND BLUE Aliss Marporie Newbegin, the bride’s sister, and Miss Alarjorie Bourne, were the two attendant maids. They wore frocks of french blue and peach respectively, made of georgette and taffeta on similar lines. A swathed taffeta sash was worn diagonally from the shoulder to the waist, where it finished in a large bow with streamer ends falling below the uneven hemline of the full skirt. Their hats of soft felt were turned up in front and trimmed with velvet ribbon. Each
maid carried a bouquet of autumn tints.
Little Joy Hatton, who was a flowergirl, wore the prettiest frock of apple green frilled taffeta. She wore a cap of green ribbon aiid tulle, and caarried a posy of autumn-tinted flowers. Mr. Alan Wilson, brother q£ the bridegroom, acted as best man, and Mr. Harold Newbegin, the bride’s brother, was groomsman. Mr. Philpott was at the organ. After the wedding a reception was held at the Penrith Rooms, where mases of bronze and gold chrysanthemums made effective decoration. Mrs. Netvbegin, mother of the bride, wore a navy blue georgette ensemble embroidered with cherry and gold, and navy felt hat. She carried a bouquet of autumn tints. The mother of the bridegroom, Mrs. A. Wilson, Avas in a gown of pistache green, with navy face cloth coat and beige hat. She also carried a bouquet of autumn-tinted flowers. To travel in the bride wore a becoming ensemble suit of lido blue with felt hat to tone and fox furs. n e*l*e* c^ee * wore fawn crepe Mrs. Bergstrom, in a figured crepe frock. Mrs. Fraser, wearing a tailored tweed costume. Mrs. Gordon, whose black frock was of satin. Mrs. A. Murdie, in grey satin with georgette sleeves. Mrs. Nixon, in a black satin crepe frock. Mrs. Stretton, in silver satin maroeain georgette. Mrs. Edwards, who chose cream silk crepe for her frock. Mrs. Graham, wearing navy blue georgette. Mrs. Selman, in figured silk rayon. Mrs. Dew. who wore navy blue repp trimmed with fawn. Mrs. Thompson, in a navy blue repp frock. Mrs. XJzzell, wearing saxe blue repp. Mrs. Taylor, in black georgette with gold embossed roses. Mrs. whose beige repp frock was trimmed with fawn.. Miss E. Lyttle, in red satin maroeain. The bride travelled in a heather mixture frock under a brown coat and a felt hat~ and skunk furs. Dancing and singing were indulged in till the early morning. Mr. Palmer officiated as M.C., and Mesdames Harrison, Graham and Gordon provided the music. Messrs. Uzzell, Fenton, Scott, Sherrock. Plank and Palmer gave several musical items.
