NORTHCOTE BOROUGH

The Xorthcote Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, presiding. It was decided to discuss in committee the Legal and Finance Committee’s report regarding the council’s liability for capital and working costs of the combined North Shore boroughs' destructor. It was reported that damage to the extent of £2B was caused by the exceptionally high spring tides to the Sulphur Beach breast-wall. The borough overseer was instructed to repair the damage. The borough overseer submitted maintenance estimates for the current year for the purpose of main highway maintenance. Section No. 2.—Lake Road, length 105 chains from way memorial to northern boundary, £406. Section No. 3. —Onewa Road, length 45 chains from war memorial to western boundary, £153. Raleigh Road, £7B. These estimates are to be forwarded to the* No. 1 District Highways Council. Whangarei, for the purpose or obtaining the maintenance subsidy of £2 for £l. The Auckland Returned Soldiers Association ottered the council the sum of £2O for employment of ex-soldiers subject to the amount being subsidised £1 for £1 by the council. It was decided to comply with the request. The council decided to accept ar invitation from Canon McFarland to attend the service at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church next Sunday morning. It was decided to support the requesof the Resident and Ratepayers’ Association that the Devonport Ferry Company be asked to endeavour to arrange the Sunday vehicular service so as to provide in conjunction with the P&s* senger service a half-hourly time-table from 9.30 a.m. onward. The Mayor and Councillor George were appointed the council’s representatives on the Harbour Bridge Committee.
