AUCKLAND POWER BOARD CONCESSIONS STANDING CHARGE REMOVED Though the concession ■will reduce the bard’s revenue by £12,000 a year, the abolition of the standing charge of sixpence levied by the Auckland Elec-tiric-Power Board in connection with the supply of electric power is recommended by the chairman, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, in his annual report to be presented at the annual meeting next Monday. It is claimed that the satisfactory state of the board’s finances will fully justify the action. Since the board started concessions have been made in meter rents, the domestic rate, 5 per cent, discount on the whole accounts instead of a portion, elimination of the 10 per cent, surcharge previously on the outer areas, and the reduction of the commercial lighting rate from Old to 5d a unit, which has proved a saving to the consumers of £23,000. The new concession, together with the previous reductions, represent a total sum of about £42,500 a year. The board has promised to renew the whole of its rates after the system has been changed over io water power, but it will not be until after a full year’s operation that costs will be known, and therefore revision must be delayed until figures are available.
