“TOO MONOTONOUS”

LIFE ON NIUE ISLAND TRADING FOR 20 YEARS “Far too monotonous,” is how Mr. J. W. English sums up his 20 years’ experience as a trader on Niue Island. Ho was a passenger from Sydney by the Maunganui this morning, and intends to leave for Niue by the Maui Pomare on her next trip. “Progress is pretty slow there,” said Mr. English. “I am giving up business when I return to Niue and then I intend to settle down in Australia. My wife and children are in Australia now, and I won’t be sorry to give the trading life up. Twenty years is too long.” Trade had been only fair lately and competition was becoming keener. Mr. English has paid many visits to Auckland during his residence on Niue.
