In reply to representations from several Ohura County School Committees, which suggested that this district should be made into a'special ward rather than being included in the central ward with Stratford, the Taranaki Education Board states that it has no power to alter the conditions, which a.re governed by the Education Act 0f^1915.^ At the first meeting of the newlyelected Taumarunui Hospital Board (all the former members retained their seats) advice was received from the Director-General of Health informing that the board’s estimates for the year were approved. The acting-Director-General of Health advised that the proposed additions for tlie provisions of an isolation block at the hospital were not considered very satisfactory, and stated that plans for a complete block separate from the present institution would be forwarded. The board resolved to defer the matter for a month. * * * For a trophy presented by Mrs. F. Bowman, the Manunui Homing Pigeon Club flew its last race of the north programme, from Auckland, the results being: D. Andrew’s Constant, 1,081.5 yards a minute, 1; D. Wilson’s Avalanche, 1,050.9 yards, 2; J. Whittaker’s Prince Humphrey, 1,079.1 yards, 3; R. Patterson’s Wee Olga, 1.061.9 yards, 4; J. Langwell’s Brother Harry, 1,042.3 yards, 5. The next race will be from Paekakariki for a trophy presented by Mrs. Spicer. The Taumarunui Hospital Board was defeated at the last sittipg of the Taumarunui Magistrate’s Court, in an interesting claim for a sum of £5 7s. alleged to be due for the services of the district nurse. Mr. T. Simpson, .representing the defendant, Mr. J. Cullen, held that the board had no power to claim for services rendered by this nurse to native patients, and the magistrate, Mr. R. M.
