BACK TO HODS

Bricklaying Fashion Returns AFTER 22 YEARS Said to be for the first time in 22 years, bricklayers’ hods have come into fashion again in Auckland. They are being used for the construction of the new theatre on Civic Square. Strange to say, there is only one expert hod-carrier in Auckland at the present time, and he was brought oyer from Australia specially for the job. Under his expert guidance four Auckland stalwarts are being trained to become as nimble as monkeys at running up and down ladders with hods of bricks. On all jobs previously the bricks have been thrown up from one scaffolding to the other, but it is too slow a business when the bricklayers are working at ton "«eed. Therefore hods have been caleld forth to make their bow to the Auckland I Hiding trade once more. With anything from 12 to 3.6 orioUsk in the hod, weighing from 112 to 1401 b., only the strongest men can stand up to the work. Fashions in bricklaying, as in clothing, move in cycles, and the hod has returned to stay.
