DROWNED IN SUMP-HOLE

DEATH OF YOUNG BABY STRAYED FROM MOTHER (From Our Own Correspondent) j HUNTLY, Today. An inquest was held this morning into the circumstances surrounding the death by drowning of Leslie Ronald Harloek, aged 15 months, yesterday afternoon. The mother of the child stated that she was engaged washing and hanging out the clothes when the boy was missed. He was found by his brother, William, aged 11 years, with his face downward in asump-hole of washing water, about 14in deep. Medical aid was promptly forthcoming and Dr. R. C. Mac Diarmid worked for 70 minutes at artificial respiration but without success. Mr. E. A. Jones, coroner, returned a verdict that the child met his death from asphyxia due to being accidentally drowned.
