BIG BUSINESS DEAL

J. M. MENNIE’S BIG PURCHASE LAURIES, LTD. ABSORBED Final negotiations in a business deal of considerable magnitude were, completed this morning when the oldestablished firm of C. G. Laurie, Ltd., manufacturing confectioners and biscuit makers, was purchased by J. M. Mennie Ltd., of Albert Street. J. M. Mennie, Ltd., have been in the biscuit and confectionery manufacturing business in Auckland since 1569, and, during that time, have built up a sound and ever-growing business connection throughout all parts of New Zealand, particularly in the Auckland Province. The firm has been established in its present site in Albert Street for 46 years. In regard to the firm’s new purchase it is understood that the business in Stanley Street will be conducted more or less as a subsidiary to the main firm. Just prior to the sale Laurie’s factory had been completely renovated. It has approximately 80 employees on its pay roll.
