MORNINGSIDE ASSAULT

VERDICT OF NOT GUILTY After deliberating several hours last evening, the jury which heard evidence on the retrial of Bertram Augustine O’Connor, aged 35, on a charge of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, in the Supreme Court yesterday, returned a verdict of not guilty. The case, which was heard by Mr. Justice Herdman, arose out of an attack on a young woman on Western Springs Road, Morningside, on the night of March 2S, when she was struck on the head with a piece of iron piping. The taking of evidence lasted the whole afternoon, the jury retiring just before the tea adjournment, and returning about 9 o’clock. The accused was accordingly discharged. i
