ASSAULT IN BUS

TWO MEN FINED (Special to THE SUN) WAIHI, Tuesday. Charges of assaulting Reuben Leadbeater and Joseph William Chandler, two passengers In a bus, were preferred against James Cawley, 23. and Leo Meagher, 18, in the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M., today. They were also charged with using obscene language, and Casley pleaded guilty to a breach of his prohibition order. The other charges were denied. After evidence had been given the magistrate dismissed the charges of obscene language and assault on Chandler, but found the accused guilty of assaulting Leadbeater. Casley, who had two previous convictions for similar offences, was fined £3, and Meagher £2. For the breach of his prohibition order Casley was fined £2. Fourteen days in which to pay the fines were allowed.
