POSED AS CONSTABLE
IMPERSONATOR FINED £25 INQUIRIES AT HOTEL (Special to THE SUN) NGARUAWAHIA, Sunday. A charge of falsely representing himself a member of the police force was preferred against a middle-aged man, Horace J. Spalding, who appeared before justices of the peace in the Police Court yesterday. Evidence was given that accused went to the Taupiri Hotel, where a robbery had occurred, and said he had taken sent by the police at Hamilton to make inquiries, and that he was a member of the force. He made inquiries from tho wife and brother of the iicensee, and the latter challenged him to produce his authority. He then went away, and the police were notified. Accused had in the meantime visited the dairy factory and represented himself to the manager as a prominent dairyman. Accused, who pleaded not guilty, was fined £25, in default three months’ imprisonment. On a charge of being an incorrigible rogue and vagabond he was convicted and discharged.
