SAILOR'S ESCAPADE
SCALED SEVEN FOOT WALL WHILE DRUNK FOUND IN CHURCH GROUNDS Scaling a seven-foot wall while he was so drunk that he could remember nothing of the incident was the rather rem:4 kable feat of Arthur James William Barnes, who appeared in the Police Court this morning. BARNES, an able seaman aged _s. from H.M.S. Veronica, pleaded guilty to being found without lawful excuse on the enclosed premises of St. Patrick’s Church. Chapel Square. Sub-Inspeetor McCarthy described the circumstances as rather peculiar Barnes was a respectable and decent young man from the ship. Yesterday lie had obtained shore leave and disposed of some drink. About 11 o’clock last night a constable had found him in the church grounds. "To get t*« where he was found he would have to climb a seven-foot wall,” the subinspector added. Barnes could remember nothing of the incident and the police were not suggesting that h»had entered the grounds with any in* tention of committing a crime. "I don’t wish to enter a conviction against the man,’’ remarked Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., and dismissed the case, ordering Barnes to return to the ship.
