FLU VERY PREVALENT
OFFICE STAFFS DEPLETED DOCTOR ADVISES CAUTION Hundreds of people in Greater Auckland are suffering from influenza mostly of a mild form. IVTANY Business houses report do pleted staffs and schools have been seriously affected. One school had 00 pupils absent at the one time. The holidays which have begun this week offer a chance for checking the infection. Dr. T. J. Hughes says there is nothing whatever to be alarmed about, but he advises certain precautions. Even a common cold if neglected might easily become dangerous, and sufferers j should watch themselves. I As an elementary precaution, Dr. ! Hughes advises a throat gargle comprising a teaspoonful of salt in a pint of water, tinged with Condy’s fluid. Danger often arose when patients left their beds too soon. They should remain in bed until a normal temperature had been maintained for 48 hours. Influenza being very infectious, contact of the patient with others should be avoided.
