IF LORRIES PAY LESS
PRIVATE CAR OWNERS ANXIOUS MAKING UP TAXATION As a counter to the arguments for reduction of heavy traffic fees, Mr. M. H. Wynyard, at last evening’s meeting of the Auckland Automobile Association, said that attention should be drawn to the taxation on private cars. Mr. S. Butcher said that any reduction in heavy traffic fees, now amounting to £250,000 a year, might have to be made up by private car owners. He suggested that a petition indicating the view of the private owner should be prepared. The secretary, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, said a petition signed by thousands could be got within a few days. l The question was left to the Finance Committee with power to act.
