PIONEER’S 80TH BIRTHDAY (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, "Wednesday. One o:: the oldest and most esteemed residents of Hamilton, Mr. Walter Chi tty, of. “Brooklyn,” celebrated his 80th birthday today. He has resided in the Waikato for nearly 60 years. Born in England. Mr. Chitty left there when 23 and after an adventurous trip in the ;sailer Bulwark reached New Zealand in 1572. He was the first to plough that area of land on which the present Frankton saleyards now stand. At that time Frankton was a. wilderness of swamp and fern. Mr. Chitty was one of the fathers of the Waikato A. and P. Association and Waikato Winter Show, and his untiring efforts have earned him the gratitude of the farming community. Still hale and hearty, Mr. Chitty takes an active interest in racing and polo.
