WIN FOR GLENGARIFF FIRST RACE TO DENIER Press Association HAWEIIA. Today. T-he Egmont winter meeting opened today before a large attendance in fine though threatening weather. The track was softened by heavy rain overnight, but not sufficiently to seriously' affect the going. Results: TELEGRAPH HACK First Division Of £125; 6 furlongs A —DENIER, 8.8 .. 1 I —RICHFIELD. 8.6 .. .. ‘! . . .. 2 10—GOLDEN FLOWER, 7.0 3 Scr.: Malahat, Annoyer, Billet. Won bv a short neck, a length and a-half between second and third. Time, 1.16£. Richfield and Cool Mint were well backed for the first division of the Telegraph Handicap. Hopwood misled the jump-out, and when the field had settled down Denier was in front from Richfield. Golden Flower and Cool Mint. This was the order to the straight, where Denier and Richfield fought out a good finish. Denier, well .ridden, winning by' a neck. The imported English horse Bagpipes is topweight for the Australian Hurdles (£2.000, 2 miles 3 furlongs), with 11.2. The Waikato gelding Wedding March has 11.2, Murray King (winner of the Sydney Cup a couple of years ago) has 11.1, and the Waikato gelding Stormy 10.11. In the Australian Steeplechase (£2,000, 3 miles), Nyangay heads the weights with 12.2. Sandhurst has 11.10, and the New Zealanders Wedding March and Tuhi 11.0 and 11.0 respectively.
