BURGLARS ENTER GARAGE
disturbed by owner escape through window Two burglars who broke into the Surrey Service Station in Surrey Crescent early this morning were surprised by the proprietor and compelled to escape before they were able to find anything of value. rpHE station, which is run by Mr. E. L Page, who sleeps on the premises, was entered about two o'clock this morning, the burglars’ idea, presumably, being to open the safe in the office. Mr. Page heard them at work and talking to each other. He jumped out of bed but in doing so unluckily knocked over an electric radiator, which made such a noise in falling that the two intruders took fright. Mr. Page went into the garage hoping to catch the men there, but he found the place empty and heard them scuffling about in the back of the office. He made a dash for them, hut before he could reach them they had escaped through a window opening on to a vacant lot. By the time he could get round to the back of the building they had disappeared. The burglars got into the building by breaking the fanlight, but were disturbed before they had time lo do more than begin work on the safe.
