WORK OF METHODIST ORPHANAGES WORK REVIEWED the keynote of the successful work being carried on by the women's committee of the Methodist Homes and Devonport. told members at a gift afternoon in the Pitt Street Methodist TT g n yesterdav. Philanthrof*'. which he defined as providing children with a crutch to lean on to-day and the power to walk in future, has been one of the chief characteristics of the work in the past few years. The president, Mrs. _A. Peck, traced the development of the movement since its inception 16 years ago. when the late Mr. A. C. Caughey and his sister. Mrs. W. H. Smith, presented to the Church the first home, now known as Wes.ey Home. The work had steadily advanced so that now there were three homes, with a present roll number of 11F The women's committee has a heavy task in fulfilling Its responsibility for the cl o thing of so many boys and arirls. and while grateful for generous help given, was in urgent need of increased resources.
