SIR JAS. WILSON DEAD
FARMER AND PUBLIC MAN Press Association MART OX, To-day. Sir James Glenny Wilson has died at Marton aged 80. He was prominent in political and agricultural circles and was chairman of the Palmerston North Hospital Board and the Board of Agriculture. § Sir James Wilson was born in Hawick, Xew Brunswick, in 1849, and was educated at the Edinburgh Institute, Bruce Castle, Totenham, and the London and Edinburgh Universities He came to Xew Zealand in 1874 and began sheep-farming in the Rangitikei district. He was elected to Parliament in 1882, and represented in turn, Foxton, Palmerston North ana Otaki. Sir James was president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union from its inception in 1900 until 1920, and served on several boards. He was knighted in 1915. He was also the author of a. book “Early Rangitikei. ’
