CHANGE TO THURSDAY SATURDAY SHOPPING NIGHT (From Our Own Correspondent) TE KUITI, Wednesday, j As a result of a poll to-day, the half- ! holiday in Te Kuiti has been changed from Saturday to Thursday. The Saturday late night has been advocated strongly for some time past, and, as a result of propaganda, Saturday opening has been carried. It was contended that sawmill hands and farmers in the district, instead of doing their shopping in Te Kuiti on Friday, went to Taumarunui and other centres which observe the late Saturday shopping night. With the institution of a suitable railway time-table, shoppers from both north and south of Te Kuiti will be able to do their shopping, and also attend the pictures, and return home the same evening. The voting on the halfholiday was as follows: Monday, 2; Tuesday, 0; Wednesday, 6 Thursday, 419; Friday, 0; Saturday, 269. PAEROA VOTES FOR THURSDAY A poll on the half-holiday question resulted In Thursday being declared the half-holiday by 20 votes, the voting being; Tuesday, 2; Wednesday, 14; Thursday, 351; Friday, 1; Saturday, 331. OPOTIKI RETAINS SATURDAY A vote at Opotiki on the half-holiday question resulted: —Saturday, 339; Wednesday, 337. Saturday was the half-holiday previously. SATURDAY FOR NAPIER Saturday has been retained by Napier as the wekly half-holiday.
