GAOL GOVERNORS SUED
MAN RELEASED ONE DAY TOO LATE ALLEGES MALICE (Australian unci N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 12.8 p.m. LONDON, Tuesday. HayJey Morris, who was sentenced to three years’ gaol for indecency toward girls, after a sensational trial at Lewes, was again in the courts yesterday and was aw'arded £l5O damages against a newspaper publishing details of his relations with a woman, which the jury adjudged to be libellous. Morris is also suing the governors of Portsmouth and Pentonville gaols for wrongful imprisonment. Whereas he should have been released on July 20, 1928, he actually was released on July 21. Morris gave evidence that • was unjustly deprived of five mark:. iiich was the equivalent of a day’s extra imprisonment, because the warder reported bim to the governor for talking in the prison yard during daily exercises. Morris complained that he was not allowed to call evidence to rebut the charge. Morris added that the governor of Portsmouth prison was actuated by malice, because he refused the governor’s request .that he spy upon other prisoners. The case was adjourned, ... ~
