NEW BAPTISMAL FONT

MEMORIAL A T ST. MATTHEW’S in memory of the late Mr. J. W. Leigh, a baptismal font will be consecrated by Archbishop Averill in St. Matthew’s Church at the morning service next Sunday. Mr. Leigh was a member of St. Matthew’s Church for over 20 .years and left a bequest to provide a font for the church. The font has been designed and carved by Mr. J. W. Andrews, of Herne Bay. The material from which it has been carved is coloured Derbyshire alabaster, and the design and appearance is said to be finer than anything in New Zealand and to be almost comparable to the famous fonts in the English cathedrals. Immediately after the consecration on Sunday three infants, whose grandparents have long associations with the church, will be biiptised in the new font.
