NEW SWIMMING TIME

100 METRES BACKSTROKE ENA STOCKLEY’S SUCCESS In a sensational swim in the Tepid Baths last evening. Ena Stockley. the women’s champion sprint swimmer, established a new 100 metres backstroke record. She covered the distance in 84 L-5 sec, which is an improvement of twofifths of a second on her own time. Miss Stockley was making the attempt because, in a previous effort on April 18. she mulled a turn at a critical stage and failed in her attempt. Her success was a fitting end to what has been an extraordinarily successful season for her. In the same swim, Miss Stockley covered 100 yards in 77sec, four-fifths of a second, better than her standing New Zealand time. On April 18. Miss Stockley made the distance in the faster time of 76 2-ssec. so this time is to be advanced for recognition as a record. MILITARY SPORTS Swimming championships for Territorials and Senior Cadets will be held in the Tepid Baths this evening by the Auckland Military Sports Association.
