ACCIDENT AT SCHOOL

MT. ALBERT INCIDENT EDUCATION BOARD MEETS The headmaster o£ the Mount Albert District School forwarded a report to the Auckland Education Board at its meeting to-day regarding the alleged accident to a child at the school as reported at the meeting of householders last Monday week. In his report, the headmaster said that no accident had occurred at the school as far as he could ascertain. He included the evidence of two pupils, stating that the accident had occurred at a public playground when the child referred to was on the way home. The Department of Education forwarded a memorandum regarding file objections of the Auckland Grammar Scliools’Board to the training of students of the Auckland Training College. The department asks the Grammar Schools’ Board to reconsider the question of co-operating with the Education Board and the principal of the Training College. COROMANDEL TEACHER The Minister of Education wrote regarding representations made to him at a recent conference with the board concerning unemployment of ex-stu-dents of the Training College. The Minister said he did not consider it advisable to adopt the suggestion that the board should be allowed to give trainees their lirst permanent appointment without competition. Further, the Minister stated he would make inquiries as to whether it was not possible to carry on ex-students as supernumeraries with salaries equal to Training College allowances until such time as their services were required on the permanent or relieving staff. Mr. A. Burns, the chairman, stated that there were 154 ex-Training College students in Auckland who had not obtained permanent appointments. Of these, however,* 109 were in temporary employment. The advisory inspector reported regarding accommodation for the teacher in an isolated position on the Coromandel Peninsula, recommending the erection of a small residence. The board decided to advise the department to tbat effect.
