“THE WRECKER”
COMING TO AUCKLAND The J. C. Williamson, Ltd., management (in conjunction with E. J. and Dan Carroll) will present for the first time in New Zealand at His Majesty’s Theatre on Wednesday, May 8, the latest and most successful mystery drama, “The Wrecker,” which broke .records in England and America, and attracted large audiences in Sydney and Melbourne for over eight months. Arnold Ridley, who also wrote “The Ghost Train,” is the author of “The Wrecker,” which is said to be a better constructed and more thrilling play than either “The Terror” or “The Ringer,” both of which enjoyed much popularity in this city. The interest in “The Wrecker” is keen three minutes after the rise of the curtain, and it is maintained right to the final scene, when the identity of the Wrecker is revealed. The wonderful stage effects include the most realistic reproduction of the noises of a railway yard, and of the moving trains. The play has a myrder, plenty of movement, a love relief, and plenty of good and wholesome humour. No money, it is said, was spared to procure the best artists for the portrayal of “The Wrecker,” with the happy result that the organisation has been described as one of the best of its kind that has ever appeared in the colonies. The company is headed by Miss Josephine Wilson and Mr. Clayton Green, two of London’s foremost dramatic stars. The cast of “The Wrecker” also includes Mr. George Willoughby, Frank Morrison, Noelle Sonning, Guy Routh, Arthur Young, Ivy Sparrow, Maye Brudell, Reginald Collins, Victor Fitzherbert, Helen Saintsbury, Richard Stirling, Norman Lee and Hedge Carey. The approaching season is limited to six nights, for which the box plans will be opened at Lewis Eady’s on Monday, May 6.
