HAWAIIAN ANNOYED FINED £lO FOR ASSAULT (Special to THE SUN) WANGANUI, To-day. A few nights ago a Hawaiian named Robert McCarthy arranged with Mr. R. V. Lacy to motor him to Okoia. McCarthy, it is alleged, was slightly under the influence of liquor, and, when he ascertained that he had been carried past where he intended to get out, violently assaulted Lacy. The latter broke away and ran to a house for assistance, but found the house was McCarthy’s. There he was assaulted again. When charged with the offence today, McCarthy said he had supplied the car with petrol, and had thought this was sufficient payment. The Court did not think so. and fined him £lO and costs, in default one month’s imprisonment. Constable Mclntosh said that when he saw Lacy he was very much shaken. He had been bitten on the jaw and also on the back.
