FRANKLIN ROADING
ALL-WEATHER HIGHWAY PROPOSED POKENO TO WHANGARATA (Special to THE SUN) TUAKAU, To-day. The construction of an all-weather road between Whangarata and Pokcno, to give a level metalled road between the northern and southern parts of Franklin County, were discussed by members of the Franklin County Council, members of the Tuakau Town Board, the district engineer of the Public Works Department, and the Franklin County engineer, Mr. J. F. McArthur. Alternative routes were suggested —one following the present clay road, and the other the old railway line. The representatives of the Tuakau Town Board said that the board would be willing to contribute the interest and sinking fund on about £I,OOO, being one-eighth of the cost. This was on condition that the work followed the old railway line, and that the road was declared a highway from where it joined the present Pukekohe-Glen Murray highway at Tuakau. A report on the question will be made to the county council by the county representatives.
